Howard Lederer grew up in a family of 5 where he enjoyed betting on different card games at a young age. He found himself getting very competitive in these card games as he was competing against his father. After graduating from Sr. High school, Howard decided to put college on hold for a little bit and headed to New York City to play some formidable chess. While playing chess, he was brought in to a poker game going on in the rear of the room. Howard’s initial 2 years were rough as he would play extensive hours and lost a majority of the time. He made some additional cash by being an assistant for the poker players. He believed he possibly could boost his game by analyzing his life away from poker. He made an attempt to get more sleep and focus attention more on the game.

The real improvement in his game began when he started playing at the Mayfair Club in New York. The Mayfair was a bridge and backgammon association where the best players would frequently play against one another. Howard had access into a few of the foremost minds in chess. With their assistance, Howard would tweak his strategic thinking skills. He used these strategy concepts in the game of No-Limit texas hold’em.

Howard also assisted his sibling Annie Duke master the game of poker. Annie was an excellent student of poker as she would always be asking questions about the right way to make the correct choice. Howard Lederer told Annie to head out to Sin City and play in the World Series of Poker competition. She is one of the best female players the poker world ever. Howard moved to Las Vegas in 1993 and played money games for the following decade. When the World Poker Tournament gained popularity, Howard made the decision to compete in more tournaments.
