Gus Hansen had a marvelous year on the WPT where he was the only player to achieve closing poker table in three of the competitions. Gus Hansen has been seen on High Stakes Poker on GSN where he paid $400, 000 to play. You might remember one of the biggest pots in big stakes poker recorded history up against Daniel Negreanu. He secured a massive pot with 4 of a kind against Negreanu’s full house. Gus has made many televised poker appearances and is thought to be one of the greatest bettors around the world. While playing net poker, another side of Hansen has been seen. He often competes in the 200/400 NL maximum buy in of $40, 000. Gus usually buys-in for the min of Sixteen Thousand dollars and gambles very poorly. He waits patiently for a decent hand and then goes all in. I know Hansen is an excellent poker player but not even close to the familiar players at 200/400NL. Unless Gus is penniless, he has little or no reason to sit at the table with the min buy in.
Buying in for the minimum takes almost all of the skill out of big stack poker. Hansen is presumed to be one of the greatest players anywhere in the world but he can’t buy in for the full amt.. I think television can alter our perception of the real world at times. The greatest poker players in the world might just be guys you have won’t have heard about.
