Internet Big Stakes Poker- Who is Gus Hansen?

Gus Hansen had a wonderful year on the World Poker Tour where he was the only participant to make it to the last game in three of the competitions. Gus Hansen has appeared on High Stakes Poker on The Game Show Network where he paid $400, 000 to play. You might remember one of the biggest pots in big stakes poker history competing against Daniel Negreanu. Hansen secured a large pot with quads against Daniel’s full house. Hansen has earned many tv poker appearances and is thought to be one of the best gamblers anywhere in the world. While betting on net poker, a different side of Hansen has emerged. Gus often competes in the 200/400 No Limit maximum buy in of $40, 000. Hansen frequently buys in for the minimum of $16, 000 and plays very poorly. He waits for a good hand and then pushes all-in. I believe Gus is an excellent poker player but certainly not even close to the regular players at 200/400NL. Unless he is penniless, he has absolutely no reason to settle at the game with the min buy in.

Playing for the min takes almost all of the expertise out of deep stack poker. Gus is supposed to be 1 of the best players in the world but he cannot buy in for the full dollar value. I believe television can skew our perception of the real world at times. The greatest poker players in the world could be players you have won’t have heard of before. Gus can be found competing in online poker on Full Tilt. He generally participates in big stakes omaha hi-low and texas holdem. Gus Hansen has shown himself as a tournament player. Can he use his talents in money rounds?
