Before you Tilt

Ah, the steam. If a poker gambler states at no time to have looked down the barrel of an approaching tilt – they are either telling a lie or they haven’t been wagering very long. This does not indicate of course that every player has been on tilt before, some people have excellent control and take their losses as a hit and keep it at that. To be a good poker gambler, it’s especially important to appraise your wins and your defeats in a similar manner – with little emotion. You compete in the game the same way you did after taking a tough beat like you would after winning a huge hand. All poker pros are not enticed by tilting after a horrible defeat as they are highly experienced and you should be to.

You have to be certain that you won’t win each and every hand you’re in, even if you are the strongest player. Hands which frequently cause players to go on tilt are hands you were the favored or at a minimum believed you were up until you were hit and you squandered a big portion of your stack. Bad defeats are going to develop. Accept that idea right now, I’ll say it again – if your siblings enjoy cards, if your parents enjoy cards, if your grandma plays cards – We all have poor losses sometime. It’s an unavoidable effect of competing in Hold’em, or really any type of poker.

After all we are assumingly (most of us) in the game for one purpose – to make $$$$, it would make sense that we would gamble appropriately to maximize our profit potential. Now let us say you are up $100 off of a $100 deposit, and you suffer a large blow in a NL game and your stack is only has remaining $120. You have burned $80 in a round where you were certain to pick up $200two hundred dollars when you decided to go all-in on the flop and held a ten to one advantage. And that guy! He banged you out on the river? – Well hold it right here. This is a classic opportunity for a new player to begin tilting. They really just blew too much $$$$ on one round that they really should have won and they are agitated
