Phil Ivey has been branded as the best poker contender in the world by most of the top-ranked professionals. He was born in Riverside, CA and relocated to Jersey before his first birthday. His grandpa taught him penny-ante Five-Card Stud poker. From that point on, Phil was hooked on poker and wanted to discover whatever he possibly could about poker. Phil routinely told his parents that he wanted to be a professional poker player. Phil didn’t let the detrimental feedback from other people annihilate his dream of being one of the best poker competitors on the planet.

He started competing intently after acquiring a fake ID by the name of Jerome. He honed his abilities at the casinos of Atlantic City. The initial few years for him were a teaching opportunity and winning was not a regular thing at the time. Phil made his mark at the 2000 WSOP where he achieved 2 final tables and came away with his first WSOP bracelet, in a $2, 500 Pot-Limit Omaha game. At the final table he destroyed quite a few of the better known pros including "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.

Phil made a decision to take his game to the next level and moved out west to Las Vegas. Phil continues to participate in in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the greatest players in the world. Phil credits his success to dedication and an undying passion for poker. Phil states that he’s picking up skills every single day and is incredibly abashed about his success. Despite the fact that Phil has won some large tournaments, he prefers winning money games on a regular basis.
