NL Texas Hold’em Poker- Who is Phil Ivey?

Phil Ivey has been referred to as the greatest poker competitor on the planet by quite a few of the top professionals. Phil Ivey was born in Riverside, CA and relocated to NJ before his first birthday. His grandpa taught Phil penny-ante 5-Card Stud poker. From then on on, Phil was hooked on poker and wished to discover whatever he could about the game. He would tell his parents that he was going to be a professional poker player. He didn’t allow the adverse comments from other people kill his dream of being one of the best poker competitors in the world.

He started competing intently after acquiring a false ID with the name of Jerome. He sharpened his skills at the poker rooms in Atlantic City. The beginning number of years for Phil were a learning experience and winning wasn’t a common outcome at the time. He became known at the 2000 World Series of Poker when he achieved two final tables and won his first World Series of Poker bracelet, in a $2, five hundred Pot-Limit Omaha game. At the closing table he defeated many of the better known pros including but not limited to "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.

Phil decided to take his game to the next level and headed out west to Vegas. He continues to participate in in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the greatest players on the planet. Ivey credits his success to discipline and a continuing passion for poker. He states that he is picking up skills every single day and is quite humble about his achievements. He knows he makes errors in each game of poker and constantly strives to improve.

Although Phil has come first in some big-time tournaments, he prefers winning money games on a regular basis.
